Terms and conditions

When you make a registration at the Lake School, you are accepting our terms and conditions, so please read this carefully.

It is important that you understand them. If you have any questions, please contact us. We will be happy to explain anything you don't understand.

Payment of Fees

You must pay the total fees for your course in advance before the start of your course.

If you study on an Intensive General English course, you may receive a discounted weekly rate. If you decide to extend your course, depending on the number of weeks you extend by, you may receive a further discount.

Cancellations and refunds

Fees are not refundable if you shorten, postpone or cancel your course, except in exceptional cases at the discretion of the Directors of the school.

We strongly recommend that you take out personal insurance before you leave your home country, to cover yourself for this and if you unexpectedly need to cancel, postpone or finish your course early.

It may be possible for you to change your course, but you must discuss this with the Director of Studies who will advise you on possible options.

If you need a UK visa, you must pay your full fees when you make your registration.

When we receive your registration form, we will send you an invoice showing your fees. You must pay by bank transfer and send a copy of the bank transfer document by email or fax before visa documentation is issued.

In addition to your tuition fees, you must pay a registration fee of £65, a visa documentation fee of £25, and bank charges of £25. An express mail fee of £75 will be charged if you need your visa documentation by post. If your visa is refused, these administration charges are non-refundable. Your tuition fees will be refunded in full subject to the following conditions:

  • As soon as you receive your visa, you must tell the Lake School. If you do not arrive at the Lake School on your agreed course start date, the School must report you to the UK Border Agency and you will lose the course fees for any weeks that you do not attend.
  • If your visa is refused, you must tell the Lake School at least two weeks before the start of your course and send a copy of the original letter of refusal given to you by the Entry Clearance Officer. In this case, we will refund your full course fees less any administration fees and bank charges.
  • If your visa is refused and you tell the Lake School less than two weeks before the start of your course, we will refund your fees less any administration fees and bank charges and less a cancellation fee of 350 GBP. If your visa is refused and you tell the Lake School after the start date of your course, you will lose the course fees for any weeks that you do not attend in addition to the cancellation fee.
  • In any case, you must apply for a refund of course fees within four weeks of your visa refusal date.

If you do not need a UK visa, you must pay a deposit of £200 and a registration fee of £65, when you make your registration. The deposit is part of your total course fees. You must pay the balance of fees before you start the course.

The registration fee is non-refundable. The deposit is only refunded in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the directors of the school.

If you have paid the registration fee and deposit and cancel your course less than two weeks before the course start date, the School will not refund these.

 Classes

If we are unable to offer you a place on a course, we will refund any tuition or administration fees you have paid, less any bank charges.

After you have taken the placement test, we may suggest that you take a different course to the one that you have booked. We reserve the right to organise the classes in the most appropriate way to guarantee the best academic conditions for both the students and the school.

You must try to be on time for your classes. The Lake School keeps attendance records. Any visa national student who regularly misses classes will be sent a non-attendance warning letter and may be reported to the UK Border Agency.

You must behave in a suitable way both inside and outside the classroom. The school may terminate your course in the case of serious misconduct or repeated absence without good reason.

Homestay accommodation

Your homestay is booked from the Sunday before your course starts to the Saturday after your course finishes.

If you are responsible for paying your homestay yourself for accommodation, you should pay this every two weeks in advance. If you want to leave your accommodation before the date booked, you must tell your homestay and the Lake School, at least one week in advance.

Holiday

If you are studying for 10 weeks or more and want to take a holiday during your course, you must tell the school at least four weeks before the start of your holiday. We do not refund fees but add the weeks that you take as holiday to the end of your course.

The Lake School is closed on public holidays. There are no refunds for classes which would have taken place on those days.

Insurance

You must pay for any damage you cause, either to the school premises or to your accommodation.

You take a Lake School course at your own risk. The Lake School of English Oxford cannot be held liable for damage or accident to you or to your belongings.

Promotion

We occasionally take photographs of students, or film them in school to use in our publicity material. If you would prefer us not to do this, please inform one of the directors of the school when you arrive.

Data protection

Any information you provide to the Lake School, may be held on computer and will be used in accordance with national data protection laws. In order to fulfil our obligations to you and, in some cases, to the British authorities, it is necessary for us to see and copy your passport (and visa if appropriate), to have contact details for you in Oxford (including a mobile phone number if you have one), and to have details of your next of kin in your own country. You therefore agree to provide these and keep them up to date if they change.

Changes to details

The school reserves the right to cancel or change the dates, times, fees or any other details relating to courses at our discretion.

Complaints

If you think you have a complaint, please talk to one of the school directors who will listen and act to try and resolve the problem.
