Course tutors and guest trainers

All the Lake School tutors and guest trainers have substantial experience of teaching English as a foreign language and teacher training. Some tutors and trainers are published authors of ELT books and online resources.

The Primary Course guest tutors sometimes include Jackie Holderness or Wendy Superfine, both very experienced teacher trainers and well-established authors of Primary resources. For Oxford University Press they are co-authors of Zoom [Italy] Cool, Best Friends [Spain] and Zabadoo. Wendy has also co written Fun and Games in English and Telling Tales for Delta Publishing. Jackie has also written Chatterbox, Top Songs and Start with Words and Pictures Activity Book.

My stay in England and at the Lake School has made every penny I spent well worth it. The lessons are fun and engaging. The cultural, social and sporting activities were informative, refreshing and educational. THANKS a MILLION!

Course content

All participants are required to fill in a Pre-Course questionnaire. The Course Co-ordinator designs the course to meet the special requirements of the group. The course content is outlined and discussed on the first morning, and is then adapted as appropriate.

The methodology sessions on Primary Teacher Refresher Courses are practical and communicative. They include a wide range of activities for developing the four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing with young learners. Personal language development is also an important element of the course and based on the needs of the participants. Language improvement sessions to refresh and update your language are dynamic and interactive. Topics include grammar awareness, pronunciation, collocation, phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions.

Where requested and where possible, school visits in the local community are arranged. Some groups on summer courses also choose to attend a Shakespeare production in an Oxford University College garden. Course participants at other times of year often enjoy attending plays or concerts in theatres and music venues across the city.

Follow-up resources and support

Each participant will take away a CD of practical activities they can use in their classrooms and share with their colleagues.
